It was only a matter of time when emoji will not only take over our text messages but also our bedrooms. The Emojibator is a small funny vibrator in the shape of one of the famous emojis – eggplant.

In 2016, the Eggplant Emojibator launched the leading story on Cosmopolitan.com. Since then, Emojibator gained viral popularity with features in The New York Times, TIME, The Guardian, New York Magazine, Buzzfeed, Mashable, and more, earning over 16 million impressions. In response to the global buzz, Emojibator released the Chili Pepper Emojibator and Emojibator Travel Case… Now we can also meet the new Banana Emojibator.

Now it was time for the European ladies to meet Emojibator on Venus Berlin Show. We saw it, touched it and asked a few questions about it. We talked with Kris – the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Emojibator.

What can you tell us about your signature product?

Kris: The aubergine or eggplant emoji, the first one we came out with, has 10 different settings, made out of medical-grade silicone. It’s waterproof. It’s just under five inches long, so it’s small but mighty. When we launched in the US, the internet went wild and just loved it. Women in the US, especially myself, growing up were not really encouraged to talk about masturbation and people aren’t as comfortable as they are here. So we use humor to make light of sex and bring more laughter into the bedroom. I think the cute factor, we wanted to put it at the forefront of the design and also just humor and everything. Because, especially in the United States, people don’t laugh enough about sex. It’s a much more conservative and hush-hush conversation.

Where did the idea come from and what is the philosophy behind your design?

Kris: It was me and my best friend, Joe. He had the idea of “What is there was an eggplant emoji vibrator?” We googled and no one else had done it and we said we had to do it. Because everyone has been using the aubergine as a penis in text messages so it’s an ironic twist on it. People automatically think an eggplant’s really big so we thought, “Keep it small, compact, make it ironic.” We wanted to shock and delight people when they saw the product. We also have a travel case for it so it’s very portable. I’ve flown through the airport with many in my bag and no one stops me….

So the banana is the new design? Do we have the possibility to meet the new Banana Emojibator?

Kris: Brand new, yes. They are on the way to our warehouse in California so we’ll have them up on the site in a few weeks, just in time for the holidays. [UPDATE: Since this interview, Banana Emojibator is now available for international shipping!]

I understand it’s your first time here on Venus and Europe?

Kris: Yes, It is. I love all the openness and people just embracing their body and all of that. For us, it has been a bit shocking, because a lot of people here are not our target audience. We usually go for young women, millennials, 18 to 35. I think that there’s a lot of older men here who maybe don’t use emojis in text and don’t really understand what we’re doing. But also we have found that people, at least in Germany, take sex much more seriously. I imagine it’s been a part of European culture for a long time. So they see Emojibators and think it’s a little silly when, in the States, people have never seen something so cute and adorable so it makes them laugh and they say, “Oh, I need this. It’s so funny.” I always knew that Europe was much more advanced in the sex conversation, but it seems that we might be a little too silly for what people are looking for here.

What is the plan for the future of Emojibators? We already know the new one – Banana.

Kris: Banana, yes…. We’re not sure. We get a lot of requests from people about what they want to see next. And fleshlights have been the number one request. So we could go the male product route. We’ve got a lot of requests for emoji butt plugs, like the poop emoji. There’s just an endless amount of options. We wanted to have at least three products for women so it could be like a fruit basket of collectibles. I think we’ll see how the banana does and decide what path we want to go down next.

And, last but not least… Where can we buy Emojibators in Europe?

Kris: We sell them on our website and ship internationally. We do have some distributors in Europe, but that was our goal for being here, to find more partners just so the shipping cost can go down for the customers.
